CALIBRATION PROCEDURE

EASA regulations state that maintenance shall be performed with tools, equipment and test equipment specified in the maintenance data. Where necessary these tools, equipment and test equipment shall be controlled and calibrated to an officially recognized standard.

This AIC applies to tools, equipment and test equipment used on aircraft, both by approved maintenance organizations and also by engineers/owners performing maintenance on light aircraft.

The maintenance organization/engineer shall put in place procedures for control and calibration of this equipment. The procedure must ensure that time limits are adhered to in respect of calibration dates.

Tools, equipment and test equipment as necessary shall be labeled. The label shall indicate dearly the date due for the next inspection/calibration required.

The maintenance organization/engineer shall keep records of the necessary equipment. That equipment shall be serialized and the record shall include, but not restricted to the serial number, date of next calibration and details of all work carried out on the equipment. The records can be in written or electronic format with appropriate backup.

The maintenance organization/engineer shall monitor, at regular intervals, the due for calibra1ion dates. The equipment shall be withdrawn from service before the due date. Such equipment shall be clearly labeled as unserviceable and unfit for use.

The method of calibration and the intervals shall be that proposed by the equipment manufacturer, unless the DCA specifies a shorter interval.

The calibration shall be carried out by laboratories accredited for this purpose by authorized accreditation bodies.

The standards used for calibration shall be traceable to the appropriate Cyprus standards. A list of these standards, recognized by the Republic of Cyprus and acceptable to the Department if Civil Aviation can be found at the Cyprus Organization for Promotion of Quality website http://www.cys.mcit.gov.cy. ln certain special cases the standard may be that specified by the original equipment manufacturer or design organization.

Copies of the standards can be examined or purchased by the Library at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of the Republic of Cyprus, located at 6, Araouzou Str., 1421 Nicosia.
