MEDICAL ASSESSMENT OF CABIN CREW

1. APPLICABILITY

This AIC is applicable to cabin crew members required by EASA-OPS 1.990 on public transport flights, to perform duties specified in the Operations Manual, in the interests of the safety of passengers.

2. LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

EASA-OPS 1.995 (b) requires a cabin crew member to have passed a medical examination or assessment at regular intervals as required by the Authority, so as to check the medical fitness to discharge his/her duties. AMC OPS 1.995 (a) (2) further defines that the medical practitioner must be acceptable to the authority and lists the medical requirements applicable to each cabin crew member.

3. DCA REQUIREMENT

Aero medical examinations and assessments shall be conducted according to the aero medical procedures manual. The AME shall inform the applicant in writing indicating the date of the examination and whether they have been assessed fit or unfit.

4. CABIN CREW ATTESTATION

The cabin crew medical report shall remain valid as long as the holder complies with the requirements for medical fitness of cabin crew specified in this AIC; Cabin crew members holding a cabin crew medical report shall not exercise their privileges:
  1. when they have been assessed unfit according to the medical requirements,
  2. when they are aware of any decrease in their medical fitness which might render them unable to perform their duties and responsibilities.

5. FREQUENCY OF AEROMEDICAL EXAMINATIONS AND ASSESSMENTS

Applicants for and holders of a cabin crew attestation shall undergo an aeromedical examination and assessment to verify that they are free from any physical or mental illness, which might lead to inability or incapacitation to exercise their privileges:-
Each cabin crew member shall undergo an aeromedical assessment before being first assigned to duties on an aircraft and after that at intervals of maximum 60 months. Validity may be decreased to the discretion of the AME according to fitness of cabin crew member.

6. UNFIT ASSESSMENT

In case of suspected unfitness and of unfit assessment, the cabin crew member shall:
  1. be referred to the DCA by the AME; and
  2. be informed on their right of appeal to the DCA

7. ADMINISTRATION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operators shall maintain a medical record for each cabin crew member they employ. Responsibility for the validity of the Medical Assessment as required by para 5 above, shall rest with the Cabin Crew Member and the Operator.
