ACCEPTANCE, VALIDATION AND CONVERSION OF FOREIGN PILOT LICENCES

1. GENERAL

1.1 Civil Aviation Act 2002 as amended allows holders of PPL (A) licenses issued in accordance with ICAO Annex 1 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, to apply for a Cyprus Validation in order to enable them to fly a Cyprus registered aircraft certificated for single pilot operations during daytime over Regulated Cyprus only.

2. ACCEPTANCE

2.1 Holder of a valid CPL or ATPL pilot licence issued by a contracting State of ICAO in accordance with Annex 1, in order to exercise commercial air transportation and other professional activities in aircraft registered in Cyprus (excluding the privileges of Flying Instructor´s Ratings), must obtain a validation by the Cyprus Civil Aviation Department, according to the minimum requirements as specified to Appendix 1 to JAR-FCL 1.015 para 1 and 2.
2.2 Holder of a valid PPL/IR pilot licence issued by a contracting State of ICAO in accordance with Annex 1, in order to exercise the privileges of Instrument Rating (excluding the Flying Instructor´s Rating) in aircraft registered in Cyprus, must obtain a validation from the Cyprus Civil Aviation Department according to the requirements as specified to Appendix 1 to JAR-FCL 1.015 para 3.

3. VALIDATION

3.1 Validation of professional pilot licence and a private pilot licence with instrument rating shall not exceed one year from the date of validation, provided that the basic licence remains valid. Any further validation for use aircraft registered in Cyprus, is subject to agreement by Cyprus DCA. (JAR-FCL 1.015 para b(1) and (2))

4. CONVERSION

4.1 A valid PPL(A) issued by a contracting State of ICAO in accordance with Annex 1 may be converted to a Cyprus PPL(A) with a single pilot aeroplane class/type ratings by complying with the requirements of Appendix 2 to JAR-FCL 1.015.
4.2 Pilot licence issued by a JAA member state in accordance with the requirements of JAR-FCL and associated procedures are fully accepted by the Cyprus Civil Aviation Department, without any additional formality.
