ALTERNATIVE MEANS OF COMPLIANCE FOR CROSS COUNTRY QUALIFICATION FOR PRIVATE PILOT LICENCES (A)

1. SCOPE

1.1 This AIC states that the Cyprus Department of Civil Aviation has notified European Aviation Safety Agency EASA, an Alternative Means of Compliance for the requirements of PPL(A) cross country qualification.

2. REQUIREMENTS

2.1 It is required by European Commission Regulation (EU) No. 1178/2011, Annex I as amended – the “Aircrew Regulation” that applicants for PPL (A) must have the experience requirements in accordance with FCL.210.A PPL(A) of PART-FCL.
2.2 As defined in the European Regulation and EASA PART FCL the experience requirement for the issue of PPL must include at least 5 hours of solo cross-country flight time with at least 1 cross-country flight of at least 270km (150NM), during which full stop landings at 2 aerodromes different from the aerodrome of departure shall be made

3. ISSUE OF ALTERNATIVE MEANS OF COMPLIANCE

3.1 Cyprus Alternative Means of Compliance AltMOC1, FCL.210.A PPL(A) (a) (2) PPL(A) experience requirements and crediting for the PPL(A) states that the cross country flight of at least 270km (150NM), may be performed by carrying out 3 full stop landings at the two international aerodromes of Cyprus which are Larnaca and Paphos. This can be accomplished by:
  1. Departing from the 1st aerodrome performing a specified route and then back to perform a full stop landing at the same aerodrome of departure.
  2. Departing from the 1st aerodrome performing a specified route and perform a full stop landing at the 2nd aerodrome.
  3. Departing from the 2nd aerodrome performing a specified route and perform full stop landing at the 1st aerodrome.
  4. The whole route shall be at least 270KM (150NM) and all the above routes shall be specified by the ATOs responsible for the applicant´s training.

4. APPLICABILITY

4.1 Approved training organisation and registered facilities providing cross country training in accordance with EASA PART FCL PPL(A) requirements, are responsible to ensure that all members of their staff who may have an interest in the information contains in this AIC shall be informed.
